Tipperary County Council are pleased to announce that the contract for Phase 1a of 'Activating Cahir’s Town Centre Regeneration Strategy' was signed between Tipperary County Council and Tony Kirwan Civil Engineering last Thursday 25th January.  This Phase 1a contract will see the former Castle Court Hotel demolished and the site cleared in preparation for Phase 1b - construction a new car park and transport hub providing 86 car parking spaces, 3 coach parking spaces, 2 mini bus parking spaces, EV chargers, bicycle parking and bike lockers. The value of this Phase 1a contract is €458,763.45 which is being funded by Rural Regeneration Development Fund and Tipperary County Council.

Subsequent phases of 'Activating Cahir’s Town Centre Regeneration Strategy' will be commencing on a staggered basis over the next 18 months and these phases include

Phase 2: the alteration and refurbishment of the historic Granary building which will house the new and modern Cahir Library,

Phase 3: the alteration, refurbishment and original façade restoration of the prominent Market House Building which will accommodate a state-of-the-art Business Centre and

Phase 4, 5, 6: Public Realm and landscaping enhancements to the Square, Castle Street, Church Street, Old Church Street and St Mary's Road will transform the centre of Cahir Town.

Works on Phase 1a will include;

  • Demolition of the former Castle Court Hotel, associated structures and foundations
  • Salvaging chimney pots, roof ridge caps, natural slates and building stone from the old hotel building
  • Waste removal and site clearance
  • Clearance of trees and vegetation on site
  • Excavation of the site to formation level
  • Installation of ESB ducting
  • Installation of a retaining wall to the south of the site.

Works on Phase 1a will commence on Tuesday 6th February.
